Girolamo

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Toni, formerly Girolamo, is a friendly, somewhat shy dog who has been waiting for his forever family for a long time. He is now looking for a new home. Would you like to give this kind-hearted dog a place in your family and show him how beautiful life can be? July 30, 2026: Toni, who is now known as Girolamo, moved into his own home in 2020. Six years later, he is now facing a new beginning, unintentionally. No one can see into the future, and sometimes life circumstances change so fundamentally that they present people with difficult decisions. Nevertheless, we always wish that the responsibility for an animal is considered from the beginning, with all its possible twists. Because without a plan B, it is the dog who loses his familiar home. Leaving will not be easy for Toni. He is not a daredevil who jumps into every new situation immediately. He observes first, needs some time to gain trust and settle in. However, once he has won your heart, you will gain a wonderful, loyal companion. His current owner describes him as the dearest creature in the world - a compliment that can hardly be made to a dog. Toni is a calm, content and extremely easy-to-care-for dog who does not make great demands on life. He is house-trained, drives problem-free in the car and walks nicely on a leash. There is a certain hunting instinct due to his breed, which should of course be taken into account. The small ailments of old age are also part of him now, but they do not prevent him from enjoying his life. Toni always respects his fellow dogs. He shows himself to be extremely lovable towards people - whether young or old. He gets along well with calm, understanding children, even if exuberant play is no longer one of his favorite activities. We wish our dear, set-in-his-ways gentleman a quiet, loving home where he can simply belong. People who do not have high expectations of him, but give him security, care and many cozy cuddle hours. A soft spot where he can spend his twilight years in safety and love - that is exactly what Toni deserves. If you would like to give this special dog another chance at a permanent home, you will gain a loyal friend by your side. A heartfelt thank you to Uta Mag, who took the time for an honorary photo shoot and supported Toni with her wonderful pictures on his way to a new home. If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adopting is not only a lot of fun, but also work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message.

About Girolamo

What life with Girolamo looks like

Girolamo is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Girolamo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Girolamo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Girolamo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Girolamo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Girolamo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Girolamo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Girolamo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
