Adopt Gismo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Age: born around 2019 (according to ID 2021) vaccinated, microchipped, neutered: yes At the Shelter since: August 2023 Character: friendly, unsure Departure on: 19.09.2025 Taken over by: Hope for Paws e.V. Background and Character: Our Gismo was born around 2021 (according to his ID from the public shelter - estimated around 2019) and is about 45 cm tall. He lived on the streets with his son. There they were fed by a friend of our Luiza. But then sadly they ended up in the public shelter, from which we were able to rescue them fortunately. Gismo is a friendly and unsure male dog who is now looking for his home. Our visit in February 2024: When we entered the kennel, Gismo initially ran away from us. He needed some time to get to know us. Then he took food from our hand and allowed himself to be touched. Important Information: If Gismo is found by his people, he can embark on the long journey to his new home. He knows almost nothing so far and therefore still has much to learn. His humans should thus be particularly patient and understanding with the cute male dog at the beginning. Once Gismo has settled in and gained trust in his people, he will be happy to explore his new surroundings together with his family. For what seems to be the first time in his life, Gismo can feel safe and secure. He will surely soon enjoy all the cuddles and snuggle times. Our dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered before travel arrangements. Additionally, each dog has an EU pet passport in their possession. All dogs travel legally with traces. With traces, the entire animal traffic within the EU is monitored. Furthermore, a quick test for Mediterranean diseases is conducted before travel arrangements: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Heartworm disease, and Leishmaniasis!

About Gismo

What life with Gismo looks like

Gismo is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Little Souls in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gismo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gismo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Little Souls handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gismo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gismo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Little Souls will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gismo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gismo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Little Souls early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gismo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
