Adopt Gismo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Name Gismo Born January 2026 Gender male dog Breed mixed breed Size expected to be medium-sized foster home Gismo is still in the country with our Romanian animal welfare friends in Campulung. He can travel once we find a foster home (preferably with adoption intentions) in the Mainz/Wiesbaden area. The ages mentioned here are often estimates, as we don't always know the exact age. Other details like size are subjective. male / not neutered born around 16.01.2026 around 30 cm (growing) Turbulent marked the beginning of our life. In a cardboard box, I was found with my siblings Leni, Elli, Benny, and Marla at the animal shelter. Our health condition? Very critical! Our bellies full of worms and our skin full of wounds, but we fought our way back to life! Now I am strengthened for all the adventures that await me. I am curious about the world, I like to be stroked, and I play like crazy with my siblings. I long for my family that gives me a chance and wants to give me a forever home! Are you my family? I have not had a home before and have not yet had the chance to learn doggy 1×1, walking on a leash, house training, etc. It requires patience, understanding, love, and positive training so that I can adapt to my new life with all the new environmental stimuli. We are looking for people who are willing to take on the adventure of an international dog and give him a second chance at a responsible home. The Tierehim in Campulung is also supported by the association. If you do not live in our catchment area, it is possible to adopt a Fellnase through Seelenhunde. About Gismo

What life with Gismo looks like

Gismo is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gismo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gismo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gismo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gismo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gismo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gismo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gismo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
