adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Gitte has found her home! Her story: The little Gitte traveled to her foster home in mid-March. A great chance for the shy-eyed little mouse. But Gitte is already warming up. From the first day, the trustworthy people enjoy lots of cuddles with her. She is house-trained and can be taken in the car without any problems. Being alone doesn't bother Gitte either. As long as she has a comfortable dog bed. Gitte is compatible with cats. With other dogs, she behaves reserved and more submissive. While the walks were still very short at the beginning, she can be seen enjoying exploring the world more and more. Gitte is a really sweet, approximately 6-year-old female dog and has thus already gone through the exhausting pubertal phase. In her white to light brown fur, Gitte still looks a bit lost with her black button eyes. A little, she looks like a small, beautiful lost snowflake. A small piece of her ear on the left is missing, making her even more extraordinary. With her shoulder height of about 30 cm and body weight of about 8 kg, she belongs to the smaller representatives of her fellow animals. Now we are looking for a quiet and empathetic home for Gitte, where she has enough opportunities to settle in at her own pace. A relaxed single dog and other small house tigers can certainly live in the new home. But most importantly for Gitte is the affection of her people, the snuggling on the sofa, comfortable walks, and a fluffy belly. To strengthen the bond with her new people, a visit to a positively working dog training class after the settling-in period will contribute to giving her the necessary security and further strengthening her self-confidence. Gitte travels neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She will be transferred to a new home after a positive visit. We thank Nicole R.! You have given Gitte an identity and the chance to find a new family. As of: 06.04.

Stand: 06.04.2025

About Gitte

What life with Gitte looks like

Gitte is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gitte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gitte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gitte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gitte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gitte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gitte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gitte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
