Gizmo und Gustav

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 1 year

Gizmo and Gustav, together with their mother Gerlinde and little brother Gerrit, arrived at the animal shelter in autumn 2025 still very young. Like their mother, at that time they absolutely didn't want anything to do with humans and would withdraw as soon as anyone approached them. They never reacted aggressively; instead, they were always just cautious. Yet over time, curiosity and playfulness eventually prevailed among the youngsters, and thanks to a highly dedicated cat-lover who spent many hours with the little family, the kittens finally lost their shyness. The two now-neutered young tomcats are still very playful due to their age, but loud noises or hectic movements still frighten them. For this pair, a calm family with a heart for shy furry noses would be ideal—a family that treats them with patience and calmness, doesn't force them into anything, and ideally already has experience handling somewhat reserved cats. Gizmo and Gustav are looking for a new home together and, after a suitable adjustment period, will later be allowed to enjoy outdoor access again; therefore, their future home must definitely be located in an area with low traffic. The brotherly duo is not suitable for small children.

About Gizmo und Gustav

What life with Gizmo und Gustav looks like

Gizmo und Gustav is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz in Neumarkt.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gizmo und Gustav, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gizmo und Gustav?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gizmo und Gustav on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gizmo und Gustav if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Gizmo und Gustav already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gizmo und Gustav isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gizmo und Gustav and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
