Golfo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

When our friends from Arca Sevilla found Golfo in November 2022, the now cheerful male dog was not in the best condition. The handsome, one-year-old mixed breed had a deep wound on his head and Golfo was down to his bones. It's almost a miracle how quickly this extremely affectionate gentleman has recovered and now shows what a kind guy he is. Golfo is a fun and easygoing fellow. Although he is still in the middle of adolescence, he shows no signs of misbehavior, and even his hearing works surprisingly well for his age, as most of his peers temporarily stop receiving messages completely. Also, the elegant caramel candy gets along very well with the four-legged residents of Arca, and now that his wound has healed, Golfo can play wildly with the other teenagers, which he really enjoys. Golfo is a wonderful friend and a balanced, eager-to-learn young pup. You've surely noticed his red nose, and perhaps some may doubt whether Golfo is a good choice as a Podenco mix - but we assure you that our bat-eared ones suffer from the many urban legends among their breed. In Spanish animal protection, these gentle, elegant animals are often difficult to rehome, there are simply too many. Moreover, the endurance dogs are used for hunting and the hunting dog stereotype comes to mind: "… he will always run away; he is hard to train; he needs much more exercise than...". However, most of these people-oriented, affectionate dogs refute each of these prejudices, and at home, the glowing noses are mostly very quiet and almost cat-like unobtrusive, while outside they are wonderful companions for athletes or hikers. It's worth opening your heart and home to one of these often so handsome eared animals!

About Golfo

What life with Golfo looks like

Golfo is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Golfo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Golfo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Golfo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Golfo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Golfo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Golfo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Golfo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
