Golfo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Golfo, a beautiful big senior Dogo Argentino boy, who has become such a cheerful, kind boy, arrived to us in a bad condition from being kept in the backyard. When he arrived at the shelter, he was in poor health, had terrible skin, bone issues and intense pain in his hindquarters due to sciatica and hip displasia. But even then, he was cheerful, and hopeful for a happy life ahead. We changed his diet to Hypoallergic and his skin and fur got better very quickly. The rest of his body took more time to recover. In the beginning, he had so much pain in the hind part of his body, that he would snap to protect himself when anyone went direction his hips and lower back. Through many months of lasertherapy with our physiotherapist, Golfo is now moving much better, he now loves to run in the dog park, and makes jumps in the bushes like a young deer. Of course, he gets tired quickly, but he is telling us, that he still have life left inside him, and the small kennel where he is now living, is not a life at all. Also, all the progress made from good food, medicines, physiotherapy, is getting lost, because he hurts himself in the kennel, jumping and turning, to have anything to do in his lonely days, and then he hurts his hips again…. Golfo loves to lay in the pool, and dip his body in waterfalls - he could lay in the pool all day long if he had the chance. He really enjoys walks in the forests, nature, in quiet surroundings, just him and his human - more he does not ask for. He also travels very well and polite in the car, so it is a pleasure to travel with Golfo and take him to adventures. Golfo is a dog that loves the people he loves, very deeply. He becomes happy like a young puppy, when he sees his caretakers and favourite volunteers, and likes to be petted on the head and neck by his favourit people. Even though the pain in his lower body, is less and less, the memories of the pain are still there, so he kindly asks also his favourite humans, to be mindful about the back of his body. He can be insecure around strangers who approach him directly or without his prior approval. He is a very affectionate boy, and enjoys your company and closeness - he just needs a human, who has the patience and understanding, that here we have a dog, who wants to meet you and get to know you first, before he knows to trust you without question. Golfo is a proper dog, a big boy with a lot to offer, and at the same time he asks for respect and consideration from his humans. Golfo is looking for a home with some outdoors space, as he doesn’t go for long walks anymore, he would very much like to have a chance to spend time outside, without having to walk many kilometers a day - even just a little garden will be perfect! When going for a walk, Golfo walks very nicely on the leash, even though he is strong, and passes by most unthreatening dogs calmly without an issue. When he comes across a dominant male dog, then he gets upset and can pull strongly on the leash, so it will be important that his humans acknowledge the fact and avoid such encounters, to offer Golfo a peaceful life. Golfo wishes to be an only dog on a home. For Golfo we are looking for a human who will advocate his rights and wish for private space, for strangers not to come touch him, or to place their heads in front of his face. He communicates clearly and he is easy to read for dog-experienced people. For Golfo to have a good peaceful life, his human should take on the task to ask people to respect the dog, and not to treat him as a petting toy - he is an individual of his own. We hope Golfo will still have a chance for a loving home in this lifetime. The shelter will support his family with veterinary topics until the end of his life. His shoulder height is about 67cm. For adoptions in Spain, a PPP license would be required. Golfo is also available for international adoptions by land travel.

About Golfo

What life with Golfo looks like

Golfo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Triple A Marbella in Marbella.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Chronic sciatica causing hindquarter pain and mobility issues, requires ongoing medical treatment and careful handling

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Golfo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Golfo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Triple A Marbella handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Golfo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Golfo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Triple A Marbella will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Golfo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Golfo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Triple A Marbella early rather than rehoming privately; they know Golfo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
