Golfo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Golfo is a big guy with a lot to offer 🐾🩵 Golfo is a cheerful and energetic dog despite being 9 years old, looking for a home where he can receive the dedication, affection, and care he deserves. Once he gains trust with people, he becomes very affectionate, enjoys close company and petting, but can be insecure around strangers who approach him directly or without his prior approval. When he arrived at the shelter, he was in poor health, with bone issues and intense pain in his hindquarters due to sciatica. He may react negatively if that area is touched as it causes him discomfort, so we avoid handling that zone. He is currently under treatment and improving, although these issues will be lifelong. Still, he is a lively dog who loves to run and jump to fully enjoy his freedom and then rest on a warm bed. He weighs 40 kg, is tall and strong, and at first tends to pull on the leash, especially when he encounters dogs he doesn’t get along with, but then he calms down and walks by your side. For this reason, we are looking for someone experienced with large dogs who has the patience and dedication to continue his training and understand his needs. During walks, Golfo can be wary of strangers who approach him abruptly, but with a proper introduction, he becomes much more relaxed and sociable, although this area still needs improvement with professional help. Outside the shelter, he behaves well, enjoys the countryside, knows how to behave in busier places, and also does well in the car. He needs a family that knows how to handle large dogs and has the proper knowledge to train him correctly. A calm home with outdoor space and away from the city center. A family that can give him the affection he wishes to receive and enjoy every day with him. Also, a commitment to seek professional help if undesirable behaviors arise, as well as to continue his medical treatment and check-ups. He requires a PPP license and post-adoption follow-up. At the moment, we don’t know how he behaves with other dogs, but this can be tested and evaluated. Golfo is waiting for you, eager to find the home he deserves. You can come meet him. About Golfo

What life with Golfo looks like

Golfo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Triple A Marbella in Marbella.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Chronic sciatica causing hindquarter pain and mobility issues, requires ongoing medical treatment and careful handling

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Golfo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Golfo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Triple A Marbella handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Golfo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Golfo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Triple A Marbella will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Golfo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Golfo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Triple A Marbella early rather than rehoming privately; they know Golfo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
