Goofy

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

male Greek German Shepherd mix, 73cm tall, born in 2017 Abgabetier neutered [x] yes / [] no Since November 10, 2021, Goofy has been living in the animal shelter. Goofy lives with Nelson, and we would like them to find a shared home together! Goofy came to us after unfortunately having to leave his previous home, where he was a young, attentive, and affectionate herding dog, eager to find a home where he can lead a species-appropriate, relaxed life. With his trusted people, he is very cuddly and could cuddle for hours. Shared, small training sessions and outings make him very happy, and they should be a regular part of his new home. Goofy especially loves clicker training and hide-and-seek games. As a typical herding dog, Goofy brings a fair amount of independence and shows watchful, territorial behavior, especially towards strangers at the fence or cage, as befits his lineage. Therefore, he seeks people who set boundaries for him and do not let him make independent decisions, such as over visitors at home or behavior on the leash. Goofy adapts well to a partner who shows him that situations of human control exist and that he does not need to intervene. However, if no orientation is given to him, Goofy quickly escalates into leash aggression. Towards other dogs, his behavior depends on their liking, but he is generally well-mannered and very playful. Goofy lives with Nelson and is very close friends with him. We therefore try to find a shared home for both, as they make a wonderful team! Like a bottomless pit, treats work wonderfully as motivation for shared training with him. House training works very well already, commands and obedience are still trainable but are well-rooted with his trusted people. Goofy came to us with a noticeable foreleg deviation, which we believe is likely due to an old injury that was never corrected. An expensive operation at our shelter did not improve the condition. Goofy therefore does not use his left foreleg completely, but runs in an unsteady manner and with caution. However, he is not lame and can still run wild over the meadow. Longer walks are not an option for him, so it is important that Goofy in his new home can trust in head work and his energy is appropriately directed. We are looking for a home for Goofy without children, preferably with a compatible canine companion (Nelson!), and with a large, well-secured garden or yard where he can spend a lot of time outdoors and in nature during the day. ________________________ (As of October 25, 2024) (Click on the images to view them in full size!) männlich Griechischer Schäferhund-Mix, 73cm Geboren 2017 Abgabetier Kastriert ja / [] nein Im Tierheim seit 10.11.2021 ________________________ Goofy wohnt bei uns mit Nelson zusammen. About Goofy

What life with Goofy looks like

Goofy is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Goofy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Goofy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Goofy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Goofy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Goofy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Goofy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Goofy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
