Adopt Gruby

Mixed Breed · Male

Temperament: Gruby is a TTB-type dog of a smaller size. He definitely has something of a schnauzer in him – he is rather low to the ground. Gruby is a very comforting dog who dances joyfully with his bottom, jumps around, and gives kisses left and right when he sees familiar people. However, he needs a bit of time to trust. At first, he ignores strangers, is a bit more tense with men, but once he trusts, he becomes a wonderful, very sociable dog who eagerly offers his bottom for scratching and jumps onto laps. Outdoors, Gruby has more important things to do than standing next to a human. On walks, at first he pulls a bit, but quickly lets go and walks nicely on a loose leash. He loves to sniff bushes, but also eagerly chases any bird, cat that appears on his path (he has a strong hunting instinct). On the play yard, he runs, sniffs, rolls – there’s plenty of him, but when called, he comes running and doesn’t disdain licks. In the rooms, he eagerly plays with a tug toy or some other toy – there he shows his playful side. To a trusted person, he also eagerly climbs onto laps and offers his bottom for scratching. However, the barking of dogs on the animal shelter grounds keeps him in a constant alert mode, where it’s hard for him to lie down and relax. The barking of dogs stresses him out and he wants to go as far away as possible. Upon seeing another dog from a distance, he usually enters panther mode – he walks low to the ground, creeping, and when a dog passes on a walk, he stands tense and observes. If a dog starts barking at him, Gruby pulls and also barks, but in panic. Gruby came to us with his sister, with whom he lived previously and they get along well. For sure, some work will be needed for passing other dogs, but when Gruby is on low emotions, he can nicely ignore the dog. For Gruby, we are looking for a home: Grubowy. Not suitable for homes with other dogs.

Jednak potrzebuje on trochę czasu by zaufać. Szczekanie psów stresuje go i chce odejść jak najdalej.

About Gruby

What life with Gruby looks like

Gruby is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
