Adopt GUCIO

Male · 4 years

GUCIO is a small dog resembling a miniature dachshund – and he's by no means lacking in energy compared to his larger hunting cousins. Found in Krakow, he probably spent a large part of his life on a leash or in a kennel run. At the animal shelter, he has shown self-aggressive behaviors typical of dogs that have been unable to fulfill their needs for years – he circles in stress, trying to catch his tail, which he no longer has. A walk with Gucio is a real fitness training. He wants to make up for all the scents and sensations, so he is everywhere where something interests him – in the bushes, by the street lamps, at the end of the leash. Despite his difficult past, he is still curious about the world, a charming guy. However, he is a demanding dog. He was adopted twice – once he returned due to increased self-aggression in stress, the second time after six months for random caregiver reasons. We know today that he needs a very experienced, calm person. He has difficulties with closeness and resource defense, he doesn't handle sudden sounds and storms well, and he gets lost in a noisy environment. We are looking for a home for him without children and other animals, preferably in a quiet area, with a single person or couple. Interestingly, left alone, he can sleep peacefully for several hours. He currently takes medication to help him cope with his emotions, so constant cooperation with the veterinarian dealing with behavioral pharmacotherapy is key. A stable, patient caregiver and appropriate support are his chance for success. With other dogs, he is not aggressive, but unsocialized – emotions take over quickly. With the right, balanced companion, proper relationships are possible in the future, but it requires work. GUCIO is waiting for his third, this time happy, chance.

Spacer z Guciem to prawdziwy trening kondycyjny. Chce nadrobić wszystkie zapachy i wrażenia, więc bywa wszędzie tam, gdzie coś go zaciekawi – w krzakach, przy latarniach, na końcu smyczy. Mimo trudnej przeszłości wciąż jest ciekawym świata, uroczym chłopakiem. To jednak pies wymagający. Obecnie przyjmuje leki wspierające go w radzeniu sobie z emocjami, dlatego kluczowa będzie stała współpraca z lekarzem weterynarii zajmującym się farmakoterapią behawioralną. Kontakt: 690 842 908

About GUCIO

What life with GUCIO looks like

GUCIO is a small adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Takes behavioral medication, requires experienced handler, has resource guarding issues, self-harm behaviors when stressed, noise sensitive

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting GUCIO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GUCIO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GUCIO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GUCIO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is GUCIO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GUCIO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know GUCIO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
