Gustl

European Shorthair · Male · Senior · 12 years

Our Gustl is an open, friendly and cuddly fellow who enjoys the closeness to his people very much. At the same time, he is an independent cat who likes to decide when it's time for a long cuddle session. Once he has gained trust, he shows his particularly loving side and enjoys the time with his human very much. However, he also needs his freedom and wants to explore his daily life independently. We wish for him a loving home with outdoor access, where he can discover his surroundings to his heart's content and then return to his humans. A special feature about him is that he suffers from diabetes. Therefore, he needs his medication and special food regularly, we are looking for people who are willing to support him reliably in his treatment. The necessary medical care should of course be part of the new daily routine. Whoever takes him on gets a wonderful mix of independence, joie de vivre and lots of cat love. Do you think you are the right person for Gustl or would you like to get to know him better? Then get in touch with us.

About Gustl

What life with Gustl looks like

Gustl is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gustl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gustl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gustl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gustl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gustl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gustl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gustl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
