adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Peace and quiet, little Gusto… His story: Bistrita, Romania. Caution: Sugar shock! Gusto, Fred, Medi, Franzi, Lea, Sassi, and Faxe were taken into our care together with their mother Lycka. They were born in an auto workshop. There, Lycka lived with six other dogs and three cats. The workshop staff asked us for help with the castration of the animals and to take care of the puppies. That's why the family was taken into our care. Gusto with the black face and alert eyes is now on the lookout for his own home as soon as he has all his vaccinations. He is very friendly, likes other dogs, and also knows cats. Currently, Gusto is about 50 cm in height and weighs around 20 kg. He will thus grow into a large male dog. From the appearance of his mother, it could be that Gusto is a mix of a herding dog and a herding guard dog. One should therefore familiarize themselves with the characteristics of such a breed and consider whether the dog fits into the personal environment. Herding guard dogs are not city or office dogs. A large piece of land that they can guard would be ideal for them. Since the territory of a herding guard dog extends as far as they can see, the land should be fenced to show them their territory boundaries. Herding guard dogs are independent personalities that require the owner to have consistency and empathy and the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent, large dog. They bring many great qualities. People who already have experience with herding guard dogs do not want any other breeds, as they, despite their thick skulls, are very loyal and faithful companions. Gusto is looking for people who are not expecting anything from him and who show him how a normal dog life works. He is still a baby and has a lot to learn. Sometimes a mishap shouldn't be held against him, and Gusto should always be accompanied by positive reinforcement in his upbringing. He is looking forward to his new life with nature walks, lots of cuddle time, and also a visit to puppy school. In the first year of life, puppies should not be left alone as much as possible. Additionally, the more demanding pubertal phase is approaching. The hormone chaos turns the lives of the little rascals upside down. They "forget" often what they have learned so far, and their ears are on full alert. Therefore, it is especially important in this phase to raise them consistently but lovingly. And there is also good news: This phase will pass! Gusto travels microchipped, vaccinated, treated for fleas, and dewormed together with his EU home animal passport into his new life. Many thanks to Sunny W.! You gave the rattle band their name!

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Ruhe in Frieden, kleiner Gusto… Seine Geschichte: Bistrita, Rumänien. Achtung Zuckerschock! Vielen Dank Sunny W.! Du hast der Rasselbande ihren Namen geschenkt!

About Gusto

What life with Gusto looks like

Gusto is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gusto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gusto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gusto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gusto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gusto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gusto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gusto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
