Adopt Haker

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

About 10.5 years old (born around May 2015) 63 cm, male, neutered only by dog-experienced, still in POLAND Update August 2025 Haker has been waiting far too long for his chance at a home in the animal shelter. This friendly senior is open, friendly, and very people-oriented. He actively seeks contact without being pushy, and meets everyone with his calm and peaceful demeanor. He loves being stroked and enjoys every affection to the fullest. With his relaxed aura and always good mood, he enchants everyone with a smile, a true feel-good dog. Haker loves leisurely walks where he can sniff around extensively. On the leash, he walks exemplary and does not pull at all. He also gets along well with female dogs, he is overall a very content dog. Whoever gives Haker a home will not be disappointed: He is a wonderful dog who needs little to be happy, just a loving place where he can settle in. Who gives this wonderful senior the chance he so deserves? Update June 2025 Our grandpa Haker loves to be cuddled and to go for walks. He is still Maya's protector and does a good job looking after her. Video June 25: Update June 2024 Haker and Maya live in a room with direct access to the outdoors. They are a dream team. Despite his 9 years, he still has an unbridled zest for life, which he shows when people come into his enclosure. The more reserved Maya can only benefit from him. Haker loves being stroked and enjoys every bit of attention. The walk was a welcome change for him and he walked super on the leash. Haker is a lively young dog, cheerful and grateful for every treat and every stroke. Videos June 24: Videos June 23: Update 05.08.22 by Teammember Haker has developed well and prefers to be with females. With male dogs, he can sometimes be the boss. With puppies, he is very gentle, and the shy Maya and Dosia, who are with him, can greatly benefit from his open nature. Haker is a large, stately dog who has gained weight well and no longer has any coat issues. He is very energetic and is not aware of his strength, so one must be firm when he comes to you. On a walk, he walks well on the leash, but also has a corresponding tug on it. Male dogs should not run too close to him. He does not like it and it distracts him. Videos: Haker 17.07.2022 Walk Haker 17.07.2022 Walk Background HAKER came to the animal shelter in December 2021 – he was very thin, his teeth were broken, and he had a wound on his ear. He was clearly a dog who had to live alone for a long time. It took a while for Haker to gain weight and start looking like a handsome young dog. Now he is shining and round. From the start, he loved the contact with people and was always ready to be combed and kissed. When he came into a dog group, he was very happy when he could play with the puppies who lived in a room next to him. He likes smaller dogs and is gentle with them. He also likes to play with toys and walks well on the leash.

About Haker

What life with Haker looks like

Haker is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at home4dogs in Home4dogs.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haker, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haker?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. home4dogs handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haker on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haker if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — home4dogs will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haker already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haker isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with home4dogs early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haker and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
