Adopt Haker

Male · Adult · 5 years

Haker is looking for an experienced, calm home! Haker is about 2 years old and came to us as a wild, scared dog who was wandering in the fields with another dog. Now he is a bit better - he has made progress, but still remains withdrawn and needs time to feel secure. He walks on a leash quite well, although he sometimes jumps suddenly when something surprises him. In the building, he allows being touched, doesn't bite, but touching does not please him - he is simply not used to it. He gets along with calm, balanced dogs. Haker is very jumpy and agile, so he will do great with an active person who likes movement, outdoor walks, and working with a dog. We are looking for a quiet home without children, preferably in a quiet area, away from the center, which would be too stressful for him. He needs a caregiver with experience working with anxious or withdrawn dogs. He may also have separation anxiety, so patience and consistency are important. Haker is a dog with great potential - in the right hands he can open up, feel safe, and take many more steps forward. The description is based on observations of the dog at the animal shelter. Haker is under the care of OTOZ Animals animal shelter in Tczew. Shelter identification number: 282/25 Male is vaccinated, neutered, and de-wormed. FOR adoption, we ask that you have your own leash and a front-clip harness (M).

About Haker

What life with Haker looks like

Haker is a large adult dog waiting at OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haker, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haker?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haker on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haker if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haker already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haker isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haker and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
