Hally

Akita · Unknown

Meet beautiful Hally Many of you will have seen our recent urgent appeal to find a foster home for this lovely lady. Due to a sudden change in circumstances and a lack of breed experience in her most recent home, Hally suddenly found herself needing somewhere safe to go at very short notice and was at risk of being put to sleep if a space couldn’t be found. Thankfully, an emergency kennel space became available and she’s now safe. A huge thank you once again to our wonderful volunteers, Dave & Lynn for transporting her to safety. 🫶🏻 At almost 10 years young, Hally should be enjoying home comforts, not kennel life. She deserves a cosy bed, a garden to potter around in, and a family to love her through her golden years. We would really like her to be in a home ASAP rather than being in kennels at her age. Hally is a stunning long coated Akita with a huge love for people. She is affectionate, calm, and full of personality. During her recent ten weeks in a home, she lost an incredible 6kg through a healthy diet and exercise, rediscovered her zest for life, and even started doing happy little zoomies and bum wiggles again. She loves her walks, especially woodland sniffs, and happily settles in cafés and restaurants. She also absolutely LOVES water. 💦 Hally enjoys paddling with a little human support or a buoyancy vest and, if you live near water, that would be an added bonus for this lovely girl. She adores her toys, particularly her beloved Mr Duck, and knows several commands and hand signals. She can sit, give a paw on command, and even gives kisses if you point to your cheek and ask nicely. Hally simply loves engaging with her people. Hally has previously lived with children and could happily live with dog savvy children aged 10+. She is looking for a home as the only pet. She can enjoy walking around other dogs, but like many Akitas, she is very clear about her boundaries and does not appreciate dogs getting in her face or close to her back end. Hally needs owners who understand the breed and are happy to advocate for her, giving her the space she needs to feel comfortable. Positive muzzle training would also be beneficial, allowing her to safely enjoy all the adventures she loves while helping to prevent any potential dog on dog incidents. As a long coat, Hally will need regular grooming to keep her beautiful coat in good condition. She enjoys a shower and being brushed but can become sensitive around her back end when she’s had enough, so she will need patient owners and a breed experienced groomer to keep her comfortable and matt free. She also allows her claws to be trimmed when a tasty treat is involved! Hally is incredibly people friendly and simply loves life. She will greet you with affection, make you smile every day, and be a loyal companion to whoever is lucky enough to call her their own. She will be spayed under an adoption contract. Hally has so much love left to give and deserves a home where she can spend her golden years feeling safe, loved, and cherished. Could you offer this wonderful girl the forever home she so deserves? About Hally

What life with Hally looks like

Hally is a extra-large adult akita dog waiting at Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hally, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hally?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hally on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hally if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hally already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hally isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hally and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
