Adopt Halsbandsittiche

Mixed Breed · Female

I am looking for a new home for my two beloved Halsbandsittiche Kiwi and Stella. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, I cannot take care of them sufficiently, but I want them to receive the attention and time they deserve. ## Stella Stella came to me with only one leg. Routine examinations revealed Aspergillosis and a heart problem. Despite her handicaps, she is a brave fighter. Nothing can bring her down, and she is also super brave. That's why she has a great interest in people. She likes to sing with me and needs a new featherless companion who can give her the attention she needs, both in terms of interaction and administering her medication, which she needs twice a day. ## Kiwi Kiwi is a curious and friendly cock. After unfortunately losing his partner, he partnered up with Stella. He is shy around new people but warms up to them quickly with some time and attention and likes to sit close to his featherless companion. ## General Both birds need enough space to roam. Currently, the birds have their own room. Contact with a bird-savvy veterinarian should be maintained (the current veterinarian is in Gießen) to ensure that Stella's medication is still correctly adjusted. Housing with other birds in the same area is unfortunately not possible, as Stella could be bullied or hurt due to her handicaps. I am happy to financially support the veterinary costs. I love the two of them, and it hurts me deeply to have to give them up. I hope I can find a home for them that they deserve. Feel free to contact me with any questions. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Halsbandsittiche

What life with Halsbandsittiche looks like

Halsbandsittiche is a large adult mixed breed bird waiting at Federnhilfe in Germany.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Halsbandsittiche, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Halsbandsittiche?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Federnhilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Halsbandsittiche on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Halsbandsittiche if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Federnhilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Halsbandsittiche already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Halsbandsittiche isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Federnhilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Halsbandsittiche and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
