Adoption requirements Adoption process Ask about this animal now! Adoption requirements Adoption process Ask about this cat now! Hamlet was rescued from a cat colony where he had sought refuge only recently. Initially, he was shy and stayed in the background while being fed. While the other cats ate, he observed from a safe distance. With patience, care and time, he gradually gained trust and showed his true nature: friendly, gentle and people-oriented. It was repeatedly noticed that Hamlet had difficulties urinating, so he was immediately examined by a veterinarian. An ultrasound revealed a stone about 1 cm in size that caused him severe pain. He had to undergo emergency surgery. The operation was successful and Hamlet has fully recovered. Today he is healthy, stable and cheerful. For long-term support, he will continue to receive special urinary food to prevent relapses. In terms of character, Hamlet is a calm, balanced tomcat. He is talkative without being intrusive, and lovingly seeks the company of his humans. He is very relaxed with other cats and avoids conflicts. He can be rehomed as a quiet cat or be happy as a single tomcat. He has not yet met dogs. Free roaming is not an option for Hamlet. He should enjoy the safety of an apartment suitable living environment. For his travel arrangements, Hamlet is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Of course, he brings his EU pet passport. After a positive Hamlet is ready for a responsible home where health is kept in mind and where he is given the peace, stability and affection he deserves. Whoever gives Hamlet a home gets a gentle, grateful and exceptionally loving companion for life. A heartfelt thanks to Maria B. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

About Hamlet

What life with Hamlet looks like

Hamlet is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hamlet, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hamlet?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hamlet on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hamlet if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hamlet already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hamlet isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hamlet and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
