Hampi

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Hampi can stay forever in his foster home! His story: Hampi is waiting in his foster home for a place of mercy! Hampi is a very sweet and sturdy, but also quirky, older gentleman who still likes to play and very much enjoys being out and about with his people. In his play behavior, he is rather rough, which is sometimes connected to his past in the shelter and the fact that he never really learned how to play properly. The contact with his fellow animals outside must therefore still be practiced diligently. Hampi often barks quite loudly and is unsure when he cannot place fellow animals and they are too close. However, if they are on the other side of the street, it does not impress him. This is also due to his life in the shelter, as he was severely bitten just before his journey there. Our Hampi is, however, a strong little man and has fought his way back into life. His past is unfortunately unknown. Hampi has developed very well in his current foster home, runs well on the leash, and only sometimes likes to change sides. Everything outside is still highly interesting and exciting for him. Hampi can also drive a car and has already spent several hours alone. In the house, Hampi likes to be alone a lot but adores cuddling with his favorite people. He does not want to be touched by strangers and shows this clearly, although this is currently improving. Once he has gained trust, however, he can do everything with you. He is about 10 years old and around 40 cm tall. Unfortunately, Hampi has some physical construction sites. His heart is not in order, but currently does not require any medical treatment, only an annual ultrasound. If there is too much strain, it then expresses itself through coughing, but with a rest break, it quickly settles down. Spondylitis, which manifests itself in his movement pattern and causes pain, for which he receives a long-term pain medication injection as needed, currently lasts for three months. The future family should accompany him here, if necessary, in his further treatment/therapy with love, as long as his path still yields the necessary quality of life. Therefore, we are looking for understanding and empathetic people who will take the male dogs by the hand and accompany him step by step into the rest of his life. He needs guidance and structure, but with the right amount of patience and love and understanding and training, he will surely continue to make progress. A place as a single prince would be paradise for Hampi. In a desensitized environment with a beautiful garden where he can play or simply stretch his belly in the sun, that would be great for our little man. In the garden, he also has territorial tendencies. With positive reinforcement, the bond between dog and human is strengthened – this is therefore an absolute condition so that Hampi can unfold in a healthy environment. Hampi will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas in his new home. He will of course bring an EU pet passport with him. Who will accompany Hampi on the rest of his life journey? Many thanks to Birgit D.! You gave Hampi his name! Additionally, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Instagram tierfotografie_kiel – www.tierfotografiekiel.de – for the beautiful photos of Hampi! Date: 08.06.

Stand: 08.06.2024

About Hampi

What life with Hampi looks like

Hampi is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hampi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hampi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hampi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hampi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hampi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hampi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hampi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
