adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Hans-Peter has found a home! His story: Hans-Peter is an approximately 4-year-old tomcat currently in a foster home. His story is touching: A helper found him exhausted in the middle of the street, ignored by all. As they approached, he tried to flee but couldn't bear his front paw. X-rays showed a fine fracture that fortunately didn't require surgery. After an anti-inflammatory treatment, he is much better and can bear his paw again. For a better ultrasound examination, his paw was shaved to ensure no fluid had accumulated. Beneath his sleepy fur ball and his laid-back nature lies the heart of a resilient survivor. Despite his tough past, he meets the world with gentleness. As a true couch potato, he spends his days quietly and relaxed, making him especially suitable for people looking for a laid-back cat. He is young, clingy, and full of love. But against a daily play session with his trusted people, he is always up for it. Unfortunately, Hans-Peter is FIV positive, so only suitable for apartment living comes into question. FIV is a viral infection that can lead to a weakening of the immune system. However, this is no reason not to adopt him. FIV-positive cats can, just like FIV-negative cats, reach a ripe old age. The virus is exclusively transmissible to cats; humans and other animals cannot contract it. An FIV-positive cat can even live with a FIV-negative cat as long as there are no bloody altercations. Also, Hans-Peter gets along well with dogs, making him a uncomplicated feline companion. The dear fellow will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas before his departure, like all our cats and tomcats. Even his EU pet passport will be packed with his belongings. After a positive test.

About Hans-Peter

What life with Hans-Peter looks like

Hans-Peter is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hans-Peter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hans-Peter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hans-Peter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hans-Peter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hans-Peter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hans-Peter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hans-Peter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
