Harcos

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

This unfortunate young dog was run over by a train and rushed into the Southern Pest Veterinary and Surgical Center. He had terrible injuries, his tail was torn off, one of his hind legs was lost, and he had massive abrasions on his back and sides, and unfortunately, his head also received a severe blow. There was no question that he had to be given a chance at life. He was named Harcos here. Harcos, our train-accident dog, went through eye removal and leg amputation. Unfortunately, they were so damaged that there was no other option. He wasn't feeling well, he suffered major injuries, but he received all the help and support needed for recovery. Fortunately, thanks to this, he healed and regained his strength. He's an active young dog. Despite all the horrors, he would spend the whole day playing and running into the world. We see no lasting damage on his soul. He's ready for a new, happier life. Later, we learned more details about the accident... again, human recklessness... Harcos and his companion Olga, the Moscow girl, were guarding a yard in Soroksár. The two dogs often ran away from the yard, and the day before the accident, they were brought home from the Gubacsi bridge. Unfortunately, their owners did not keep them safe. On the fateful day, they were already roaming around the neighborhood... then came the train... Olga died in the hands of an animal welfare worker, and Harcos was taken by the owners to a doctor upon the request of the animal welfare workers... they asked for his euthanasia. Harcos is microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered and very much wants a safe, own home. We hope he will also have an Angel, who will prove that life is beautiful and that people can be trusted, a responsible owner, a family and a home are the best things in the world! Nálunk a Harcos nevet kapta. A két kutyus rendszeresen lelépett a telepről, a baleset előtti napon is a Gubacsi hídról vitték haza őket. About Harcos

What life with Harcos looks like

Harcos is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Missing one eye and one rear leg due to train accident

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Harcos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Harcos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Harcos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Harcos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Harcos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Harcos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Harcos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
