Harlem

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 13 years

Harlem, chatty, affectionate and full of love. My name is Harlem, a European cat born on May 1st, 2013. I am a very affectionate, chatty tomcat (I love talking to my humans 😸) and, I admit without shame... a glutton. I like peace, shared moments, unlimited cuddles and reassuring little habits. I can be sensitive to stress, but once I'm trusting, I become extremely attached and very close to humans. I have a disease that requires daily lifelong treatment. For this reason, I am being proposed for adoption in a retirement basket. 👉 The treatment related to my disease is fully covered by the association, so that my future family can focus on what's essential: offering me a gentle, stable and loving life. I was found stray and injured, left to my own devices. Thanks to BAB, I was able to be taken care of, treated and kept safe 🤍 I then joined a foster home, where I learned to find some peace and regain confidence. Despite what I've been through, I remain a gentle and affectionate cat, who today aspires to a calm and stable life. I am now looking for a kind home to settle down and enjoy a peaceful retirement, surrounded by love. I'm looking for a calm home, without excessive agitation, with kind and patient humans ready to offer me a peaceful and secure life. Access to the outside is strongly recommended so that I can get some fresh air at my own pace, in a safe environment. Being somewhat stressed by nature, I need a stable environment, without sudden changes, where I can establish a lasting trusting relationship with my humans. My future family must also be rigorous and serious in administering my daily treatment, essential to my well-being. It is also important to know that I can sometimes have accidents outside the litter. The cause is still being identified, and it is part of the points to consider in order to provide me with an appropriate and understanding environment. I'm looking for a placement without other animals. Even though I currently live with a dog, this cohabitation is not ideal for me and causes me stress. I would be much more fulfilled as the only cat, in a home where I can be the only little king of the house 👑🐾 🍼 Date of birth: 01/05/2013 🐶 Breed: European 💡 Identified (no. 250 26 87 32 77 01 10), vaccinated, spayed 📍 Location: 77 Some information provided by our tatas about how the retirement baskets work, which remain an adoption: The adoption fee is free; the costs related to a known illness before adoption, such as the risk of cancer, are fully covered by the association. If an illness appears after adoption, we will contribute up to 50%; veterinary check-ups, vaccination, deworming, etc., the daily expenses, are your responsibility along with food and extras; the costs of euthanasia (if necessary) and incineration are covered by the association. Adopters can however decide to retrieve the ashes at their own cost. For more information, feel free to contact us via private message. In the meantime, if you have fallen for Harlem, feel free to fill out a form. See you soon! Emergency number:

About Harlem

What life with Harlem looks like

Harlem is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at Brigade Animale Bénévole in brigade animale benevole.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Harlem, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Harlem?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Brigade Animale Bénévole handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Harlem on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Harlem if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Brigade Animale Bénévole will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Harlem already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Harlem isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Brigade Animale Bénévole early rather than rehoming privately; they know Harlem and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
