Havana

Boston Terrier · Female · Adult · 5 years

Breed: Boston Terrier-mixed-breed female dog Age: Born ca. 01/2021 I am Havana, a pretty mixed-breed female dog mostly white with a cheerful black mask and a few scattered black spots ranging from tiny to large… it’s whispered that perhaps a Boston Terrier might be mixed in with my ancestry… it certainly fits with my short tail and the unmistakably standing ears… My story begins very tragically – someone just threw me over a family’s fence and left me behind… Given away, as if I was worthless… No one in the village knew me, no one knew where I came from or what I had experienced, no one looked for me… But what I brought with me was fear… deep-seated fear of people… At first, I didn’t know how to help myself… I snatched, tried to protect myself before someone else could hurt me again… I was unsure, lost, and didn’t understand why my world had become this way… But somewhere inside me was a little bit of hope… And this hope grew, and I realized that not all people are the same… With much patience and time, I learned that hands can also stroke… That voices can be friendly… That proximity can be beautiful… Today, I am a very different Havana: I seek the closeness to “my” people, I enjoy every gentle touch and can’t get enough of just being there… I’m discovering the world anew… I’m learning to walk on a leash, meet other dogs, and gather all the experiences that belong to a real dog life… Some things still scare me, but I’m trying – a little bit more every day… My story is already known to you… now I want to set a big asterisk and start anew with you… I wish for people who see me – not just what I was, but what I have become… and what I can still become… People with experience who give me security when old fears resurface… Who give me time without expecting anything… A quiet home without small children would be ideal for me… A place where I can finally arrive… Forever!!! I am ready for my new life… Maybe you are exactly the person I have been waiting for so long… Before I travel to my new home, I will still be neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. If you would like to adopt me, please contact my foster.

About Havana

What life with Havana looks like

Havana is a small adult boston terrier dog waiting at Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. in Hamburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Havana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Havana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Havana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Havana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Havana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Havana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Havana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
