Adopt Hazel 26

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The life motto of Hazel could be: "From the shards of my life, I build a disco ball." Hazel originally came from Romania and was fostered here in Germany before being rehomed to a family. Unfortunately, there were problems with her after a short time. So, she barked a lot when frustrated and excited. Additionally, she shows insecurity and skepticism around strangers and visitors. She is hunting-ambitious and reacts to moving objects (cars, bicycles, etc.). On the leash, dog encounters are challenging, but off-leash, she is open, temperamental, and sometimes insecure. We see Hazel’s problematic behaviors, but also how much can change in a short time. She is young, pubescent, intelligent, and very eager to learn. Hazel is not a dog for beginners, as she needs fair, clear training and wants to be worked with. She knows children, but we do not see her in a household with children under 12 years old. Because of this, clear management is necessary during visits. Hazel is familiar with the muzzle and accepts it without issue. For people who enjoy working with and training a dog, she is a dream. Hazel is enthusiastic about every training exercise and would like to attend dog training classes in the future, possibly moving towards tracking or mantrailing. With trusted people, she is cuddly, playful, and open, always looking for an opportunity to have a party. Since Hazel likes to bark, we do not see her in a multi-family home. The presence of another dog is likely not a problem.

About Hazel 26

What life with Hazel 26 looks like

Hazel 26 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. in Minden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hazel 26, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hazel 26?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hazel 26 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hazel 26 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hazel 26 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hazel 26 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hazel 26 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
