Henrik

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Introducing Henrik: Henrik's story is truly unique - and could have ended completely differently. This brave dog was found on the street after an arrow pierced his head. Miraculously, his brain was not injured. During a successful surgery, the arrow was removed, and Henrik was given a second chance at life. It took more than a week for the animal protectors to safely relocate him, as understandably he was very frightened and distrustful. Finally, with much patience and attention, they managed to catch him, and thus he came to our shelter. Initially, he was still withdrawn, but since then he has made tremendous progress. He has regained trust in people, goes to them, allows himself to be petted, and even can be picked up - and it is clearly visible that he again enjoys the proximity of humans. He has overcome his greatest fears, and now gives the impression of a kind, open dog who is ready to believe again. We are currently unable to accurately assess his relationship with other dogs, as he has mostly lived alone so far. However, he has already nicely warmed up to people and is very friendly. We are looking for a loving, patient family for Henrik, which will give him time to adjust and build further trust. He has gone through so much - now he finally deserves for his life to continue with a safe, loving new chapter.

About Henrik

What life with Henrik looks like

Henrik is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Állatvédelmi Centrum in Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Henrik, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Henrik?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Állatvédelmi Centrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Henrik on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Henrik if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Állatvédelmi Centrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Henrik already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Henrik isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Állatvédelmi Centrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Henrik and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
