Adopt Hera

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 7 months

♀, born around 10/2025, active - loving - people-oriented Hera is a Kelpie-mixed-breed female dog born around 10/2025 with a current shoulder height of around 45 cm, she will still grow a bit and is likely to be of medium size. Hera was simply cruelly, cowardly, and anonymously tied to the shelter door in Sofia, Bulgaria at night. A proper over-night stay in the morning. So far, it went well for Hera; she showed no injuries, was well-fed, and did not appear neglected. Perhaps it was an act of desperation by the owner, we do not know. Now, Hera is in safety and is searching for a wonderful home. Hera is overjoyed with people, is very happy in their company, and is sad when they leave. She is also very social with her fellow animals; it does not matter to her whether they are big or small, male or female... as long as they are active and playing. Hera has hunting-dog genes that need to be adequately exercised and supported. She is not a couch potato and requires typical hunting-dog activity, a lot of activity. This includes mental work as well. Hera will definitely enjoy going for a jog or a walk, accompanying her people on hikes and adventures. Active, energetic people are sought, who have a garden where Hera can release her extra energy in extra play sessions. And she would love to have a social-only dog to look up to, with the same energy level. Of course, the charming Hera still needs to learn the basic dog commands, indoor potty training, and being alone... all of which she did not need before. As Hera is an intelligent and hard-working female dog, she will learn this quickly. Hera would also be happy to accompany her people to dog-friendly work and bewitch all the colleagues. Because being alone all day is not for Hera. In the city center, we do not see Hera's new home; we prefer it to be on the outskirts or in the countryside. Hera will not be rehomed in an outdoor or run enclosure. Hera will be vaccinated and microchipped before being rehomed. For the spaying, she is still too young. She is located at the gates of Sofia, Bulgaria. The adoption fee for Hera is 480 Euros. Do you have an active and suitable home for Hera? About Hera

What life with Hera looks like

Hera is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hera, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hera?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hera on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hera if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hera already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hera isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hera and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
