Heribert

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 16 years

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Bravely fought and yet lost… Sleep softly, little Heribert! His story: 22049 Hamburg. Opi Heribert wishes for a loving home! Heribert is with his proud 16 years a true dog Opi and really incredibly sweet. That he still looks for a new home at his age is heartbreaking and surely not easy for the little male dog, so we are urgently searching for loving people who accompany Heribert in his last years of life. Heribert is a fluffy, small, but sugary sweet male dog who has already lived most of his life. This is not without leaving a mark on him, the little Opi can no longer hear well at a distance. He still sees quite a bit from a distance, although one can see the gray star in his eyes. Overall, he gets by well. Heribert is incredibly loving and cuddly. He is incredibly people-oriented and enjoys human proximity very much. He is a Yorkshire Terrier and therefore very small. He can stay alone for a short time, is house-trained. He can sit and stay, walks on a leash, but does so as he likes. Heribert is although already an Opi, but still super active. He can run outside for 1-2 hours a day without problems. Even though it is not his favorite activity, one should still provide him with movement, as muscle mass decreases quickly with age. Even though Heribert is already older and small, he remains a Terrier. He can adapt well with a lot of repetition and patience. There are days and moments when he simply has no mood and raises his voice. With the right handling, however, this is no problem. Dog contact is not strictly necessary, but he also has nothing against it as long as they are not too wild. Upon arrival in Germany, some health issues have also arisen. He has a carcinoma at the hind leg, hardly any teeth, and the rest are already worn down. The heart valves are leaky, which, however, does not noticeably restrict him from the outside. Here, he still does not need medication. But he must be tested again in about 8 months. Currently, he is on nutritional supplements. We are looking for a grace place for Opi Heribert where he can spend his last years in loving company. Our Opi Heribert is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated, and can also bring an EU pet passport. Who falls in love with the sweet guy? Many thanks Julia. You gave Heribert his name. As of: 19.04.

Vielen Dank Julia. Du hast Heribert seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 19.04.2024

About Heribert

What life with Heribert looks like

Heribert is a very small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Heribert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Heribert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Heribert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Heribert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Heribert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Heribert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Heribert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
