Name: Herkules Breed: mixed breed Gender: male Weight: 14.4 kg Age: 2021 At the animal shelter since: October 15, 2025 Herkules is a real underdog who’s been through a true odyssey. He was allegedly found in Kassel, but it later turned out his own owner had handed him in as a stray because they wanted to get rid of him—and even spun a few tall tales that already seemed suspicious to us. Herkules is microchipped and registered with TASSO. However, the owner listed with TASSO claimed she’d given him away two years earlier. She no longer lives in Kassel, and clearly didn’t care what became of him. He likely originally came from Romania, but even she couldn’t remember which rescue organization he’d come from. Sudden amnesia seems to be more of a politician’s ailment ;-) Anyway, when Herkules arrived at our shelter, he was completely overwhelmed and can generally be described as a rather insecure fellow. He needs time to adjust to new people and new surroundings. Unfortunately, he’s also highly stress-sensitive—and when stressed, he sometimes snaps. That’s why we’ve gotten him used to wearing a muzzle, which provides not only him but also his walkers with greater safety and freedom. Once he gets to know someone, Herkules becomes very cuddly. He absolutely adores stuffed toys and his soft dog bed. Herkules is house-trained and can be left alone for several hours at a time. He doesn’t cope well with daily shelter life, so we believe he’ll feel most comfortable in a quieter environment. Children should not be living in his immediate household.
