Herman en Hanneke

Female · Kitten · 3 months

European Shorthair. Gender: male and female. Birthdate: 05/15/2026. Can with dogs: no. Can with cats: each other. Can with small children: no. Can with large children: yes. Can in an apartment: no. Can in a garden: yes. This is the text we received from the shelter. Hello, we are Herman and Hanneke, and have been living with a couple since mid-June who takes care of kittens like us, cares for them, pets them, and socializes them. The latter is necessary because we were born in the wild, probably around mid-May, had never seen people before, and so we had to get used to people, the sounds, and living in a house. We now feel completely at home, but we cannot stay there. That's why the shelter is looking for people who would like to adopt two young cats - a female and a male - and take good care of them. Our wish list is very simple: lots of cuddles, good food, no small children, and a garden where we can play when we are big enough. We want to place these kittens together at the shelter in a family that has experience with cats. Because of their background - born in the wild, caught, and grown up without the good example of a mother - they still need a lot of attention and some help to become nice, cozy housemates. That will definitely work out. At the shelter, they are now playful, affectionate kittens that only hide when there is noise and unexpected events like vacuuming or strangers nearby. For those who want to meet them: let us know and we will arrange for the shelter family to make an appointment. About Herman en Hanneke

What life with Herman en Hanneke looks like

Herman en Hanneke is a large puppy/kitten cat waiting at Dierentehuis Zeist in AA Austerlitz.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herman en Hanneke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herman en Hanneke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Zeist handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herman en Hanneke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herman en Hanneke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Zeist will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herman en Hanneke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herman en Hanneke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Zeist early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herman en Hanneke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
