Adopt Hermine

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Hermine arrived at our shelter in March 2026 as a precaution. Character: alert, attentive, lively, motivated, clingy, impatient, cheerful, eager to learn General: Hermine is a sturdy mixed-breed female dog whose age is not readily apparent. She is active and enjoys movement and time spent with her trusted people. She knows basic commands and is open to people, which has made her a big hit with the animal shelter community. However, waiting and being calm are not her strong points, and we suspect she didn’t have to adjust much to her old home. She sometimes bellows at fellow animals along the way and can be very persistent. She also doesn’t always take a loose leash easily, as she likes to have her own way. • compatibility with others with male dogs: yes • compatibility with others with female dogs: conditional • Alertness: pronounced • Prey drive: not very pronounced Ideal Home • Environment: city or country possible • Animal roommates: no • Children: 12 years and older • Second dog suitable: no Requirements for Interested Parties: Hermine seeks experienced people who can challenge and support her. We assume dog experience due to her impulsive nature. Her behavior at the animal shelter suggests she cannot be left alone, so we are looking for a home where this is not necessary on a daily basis and can be built up gradually. If you are interested in Hermine, please send us a completed application form, which can be downloaded from our homepage (home page). After that, an employee from our animal shelter will contact you to discuss the next steps. Images by Pascal Wieczorek www.wildpawsphoto.de (as of 25.03.2026 / AK)

Bilder Pascal Wieczorek www.wildpawsphoto.de (Stand: 25.03.2026 / AK)

About Hermine

What life with Hermine looks like

Hermine is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hermine, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hermine?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hermine on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hermine if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hermine already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hermine isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hermine and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
