Herod

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Herod, a dog born in 2018, Herod is a very quiet, obedient, and well-mannered dog. He appeared to us in a very good mood and was positively disposed towards all the caretakers. As a homeless dog, Herod found himself in pretty good condition, as if someone had taken good care of him. Currently, he weighs around 11.5 kilograms, which is a sufficient weight for him. Someone also taught him to walk on a leash, as he does it very well. From the beginning of his stay with us, Herod had a good appetite, always enjoyed our company, and was willing to work with everyone. We checked his relationship with other dogs, and we must say that Herod adapts well in the company. He never got in anyone's way and never tried to dominate. He could live peacefully with another dog in a new home. He is completely unaggressive, conflict-free, and problem-free. He does not destroy anything, does not dig, and tries to maintain cleanliness in his box. Due to the fact that Herod does not bark, he does not attract much attention. He also has a rather common marking that does not make him stand out from the crowd, but he compensates for it with an excellent character. Herod very much needs to be close to a human, he is deeply attached to one like a picture. He willingly approaches hoping that he will be noticed and cuddled. All petting brings him great joy, and he never gets enough of it. We would like to find the most loving home for such a great dog as soon as possible. Ideally, he would be a lap dog where he would always be close to his owner. We believe that someone will look at him through the lens of his wonderful character and give him a chance at a better life. Herod is microchipped, spayed, vaccinated, and neutered.

Herod, pies urodzony w 2018r. On jest zupełnie nieuciążliwy, bezkonfliktowy i bezproblemowy.

About Herod

What life with Herod looks like

Herod is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herod, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herod?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herod on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herod if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herod already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herod isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herod and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
