Hershey

Male Β· Senior Β· 9 years

Meet our handsome boy Hershey! Hershey has a lovely history in his previous home of being quite a relaxed boy that took everything in his stride. He showed to be social with both people and dogs with nice social skills in place. Since coming into our care, we've seen a more nervous side to this little lad, and he took a few days to find his feet in kennels and bond with staff, but once bonded can be a lovely, giggly and wiggly boy! He's shown he can be quite uncomfortable with handling particularly with unknown people so will need new owners who can be respectful of his space while he builds a bond. He's especially found clinical handling to be the most scariest experience of all and due to some of the behaviours we've seen from him on-site, he will need to be muzzled when visiting the vets. He's shown nice social skills around other dogs, but mostly just wants to do his own thing so he'll be best suited being the only dog in his new home. Hershey is looking for owners who have some experience with nervous dogs that are willing to continue his training around handling alongside keeping up a positive association to wearing his muzzle. He could potentially live with a dog savvy cat as long as they don't mind Hershey becoming vocal towards them at times. Hershey is looking for a patient, understanding home that will respect his boundaries, help him feel safe and allow him to settle at his own pace. With continued positive support, his excitable and loving side is sure to come out! If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Hershey, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest. ch for the dog in question.

About Hershey

What life with Hershey looks like

Hershey is a small senior dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hershey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hershey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hershey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hershey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hershey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hershey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hershey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
