Adopt HERZI

Male · Adult · 7 years

Our HERZI came to us in August 2025 because his owner passed away and his family could not take him in. Since his health has been fluctuating in the early days and no suitable room was available for him, it was decided to let him roam freely on the station to see if that might help. And indeed: It has greatly improved his mood, because now no one can pass by unseen – and if he wants to snuggle, it's hard for any of the many volunteers to really say "no" to HERZI. When he's in the mood, one should make themselves as comfortable as possible on the chairs in the entrance area, because HERZI likes to lie on the lap of his staff for hours. Even the two dogs living here have already noticed who is now the boss in the house. Unfortunately, his health is still not at its best. A precise diagnosis is still pending because the vet needs to conduct an enormous number of tests, as he has no idea in which direction to look. Currently, he only receives daily eye drops for herpes, which he endures without complaint – of course, only because there is a small reward in the form of treats afterwards. UPDATE: Unfortunately, HERZI's sick eye had to be removed. Under these unresolved circumstances, we do not want to place HERZI at this time but are looking for one or more sponsors to help with the vet costs. Of course, you can meet HERZI personally and convince yourself of his qualities as a station cat. We look forward to your contact! HERZI is not visible on our webcams, but all our other residents can be observed online via the webcams. And for news about many of our shelter animals, including photos and videos, you can also check out our Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or our YouTube channel, Katzenschutzbund Osnabrück e.V. In our Miezhaus, there's always something going on!

In unserem Miezhaus ist nämlich immer was los!

About HERZI

What life with HERZI looks like

HERZI is a adult cat waiting at Katzenschutzbund in Brüggen-Bracht.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting HERZI, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about HERZI?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenschutzbund handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw HERZI on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt HERZI if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenschutzbund will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is HERZI already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if HERZI isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenschutzbund early rather than rehoming privately; they know HERZI and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
