Adopt Hitschi (Einzelkater)

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 3 years

"Hitschi" initially meets strangers with a bit of reserve and needs a small moment to build trust. Once he knows his trusted people, however, he shows his affectionate and very cuddly character. He actively seeks the proximity of his people, draws attention with vocalizations, and enjoys every form of attention to the fullest. Especially, he loves to snuggle on his people's laps and demands ample cuddles. His distinct feature is his small stumpy tail. Unfortunately, we do not know why it is shortened. "Hitschi" has no limitations due to this and leads a completely normal, active life as a cat. He jumps effortlessly onto high shelves, plays exuberantly, and shows himself to be very agile and lively overall. However, "Hitschi" does not want to share his people with other animals. Neither other cats nor dogs fit into his new home, so he is rehomed as a single cat. "Hitschi" is a very clever and lively tomcat who would surely enjoy shared mental stimulation like clicker training. For him, we are looking for either a home in a suitable apartment with a secured balcony or a quiet living situation where he can enjoy a secure roam after an appropriate settling-in period. With understanding children, "Hitschi" could potentially live together, provided they know respectful cat handling and accept their boundaries. This cat needs outdoor access. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

About Hitschi (Einzelkater)

What life with Hitschi (Einzelkater) looks like

Hitschi (Einzelkater) is a small young adult european shorthair cat waiting at BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hitschi (Einzelkater), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hitschi (Einzelkater)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hitschi (Einzelkater) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hitschi (Einzelkater) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hitschi (Einzelkater) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hitschi (Einzelkater) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hitschi (Einzelkater) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
