Adopt Hobbit

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 11 months

📍 Current Location: Vienna Hobbit is a neutered mixed-breed male dog born in June 2025, who was abandoned together with his siblings. All of them found shelter in the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. Now he lives in Vienna. Hobbit lives up to his name: a little hero with a big heart who, despite not having much to learn from before, shows daily how brave he is. As long as his primary caregiver is with him, he faces every challenge fearlessly, does not get flustered, and now walks quite confidently on a leash. His favorite outdoor activity is to jump through meadows and forests together with his people. Hobbit has an extremely gentle soul and is a real cuddler. At first, he behaves shyly towards strangers, but this quickly fades away. The cute little fellow is exceptionally clever and quickly understands what is expected of him. By the end of the first day, he knew the word “wait” and now stands patiently after every walk until his paws are wiped. He was house-trained from the first day and remains problem-free when left alone for an appropriate period. So far, there have been no fellow animals with whom he did not get along. He shows kindness and gentleness towards cats and small animals from the very first moment – often it only takes a short time for him to snuggle with them on the sofa. He wishes for loving people who have enough free time to spend with him, live on the outskirts of the city or in the countryside, and already have some experience with dog care.

About Hobbit

What life with Hobbit looks like

Hobbit is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hobbit, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hobbit?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hobbit on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hobbit if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hobbit already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hobbit isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hobbit and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
