Adopt HoHo

Bull Terrier · Male · 1 year

I am completely new here at the animal shelter and hope of course that this will only be a short stop for me and that I will quickly find new people to love. What you could bring? Well, typically I am a small bundle of energy with bees in my rear. So far, I have not yet learned to deal with frustration and the word "quiet" still needs to be explained more closely. Therefore, it would be important for me that you bring some breed experience and understanding. Because despite my "banging my head against the wall" traits, there is a small sensitive side hidden behind the facade that would also like to please its people. Over-the-top harshness does not work with me, as I switch to stubborn. Of course, I still have some youthful mischief in my head, which does not mean that I haven't learned a lot. The basic commands are in place, and I excel at walking on a leash, especially in a quiet environment. Children should not be in the household, and I am absolutely incompatible with my fellow animals. But maybe we can go to some dog training classes together and learn new things? I would be very excited about that. Some symptoms here are age-related.

Was ihr dafür mitbringen solltet?

About HoHo

What life with HoHo looks like

HoHo is a medium-sized adult bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Essen in Essen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs help with frustration management and impulse control. Cannot live with children or other dogs.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting HoHo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about HoHo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Essen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw HoHo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt HoHo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Essen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is HoHo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if HoHo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Essen early rather than rehoming privately; they know HoHo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
