Holmes

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Curious housecat Holmes has found a home! His story: The young tomcat Holmes has already experienced a lot in his young life. He was found in the basement of a residential building with his siblings. Sadly, some of his brothers were found dead, while the others were traumatized and distressed. Holmes was very weakened, hypothermic, and had a great fear. After his rescue, he was treated in the hospital for a month because he had some wounds and was infected with the Calicivirus (part of the cat flu complex). Due to the infection, he developed entropion (inward turning of the eyelid). He had to undergo surgery on both eyes to remove his eyelid cyst. Fortunately, he tolerated the treatments well and did not suffer any complications. Both eyes are currently in very good condition. However, during this time, he developed a strong fear of human contact, so he does not like to be stroked. Therefore, we are currently asking for a lot of understanding and patience, so that Holmes can adjust to his new home at his own pace. Despite his terrible past, Holmes is a playful and energetic tomcat. He is devoted to his toys, his feline friends, and his food. The young tomcat lives up to his name, being very curious, adventurous, and sly. He loves sunbathing and cozy blankets. Due to his young age and traumatic past, Holmes urgently needs the company of his fellow animals. Therefore, at least one cat should be waiting for him in his new home. If not, he would be happy to take one of his foster home friends with him. Additionally, we can only place the young tiger cat as an indoor-only cat due to his medical history. However, he would definitely appreciate a covered balcony where he can take his much-loved sunbaths. Holmes can now start his journey to his new home and is already neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He has also been tested negative for FIV and FeLV and comes with an EU pet passport. An enclosed (netted) balcony is required for cat safety.

About Holmes

What life with Holmes looks like

Holmes is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Holmes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Holmes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Holmes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Holmes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Holmes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Holmes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Holmes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
