Holmes

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Holmes was born around April 2026. He is a male mixed breed dog. He is currently about 35 cm tall (as of August 2026). Holmes is currently in Romania with our Romanian animal welfare friends in Campulung. He can travel as soon as we find a foster home (preferably with adoption intentions) in the Mainz/Wiesbaden area. The age data provided is often an estimate, as we do not always know the exact age. Other details such as size are subjective. I was abandoned by a loving woman on a garbage dump and brought to the animal shelter. I do not know where I came from or why I was found alone and so small. But I was lovingly cared for and have since become a friendly, playful puppy. I am not afraid of people, but enjoy the attention and petting. I am fully vaccinated and therefore ready for my trip. Where is my forever family that wants to give me a chance at a beautiful dog life? I have not had a home so far and therefore have not yet had the opportunity to learn the dog basics, such as walking on a leash, house training, etc. It requires patience, understanding, love, and positive training for me to settle into my new life with all the new environmental stimuli. We are looking for people who are willing to take on the adventure of adopting a foreign dog and give him a second chance at a responsible home. The animal shelter in Campulung is also supported by the association. If you do not live in our area, it is possible to adopt a furry friend through Seelenhunde. If you are interested in this wonderful dog, please fill out the placement inquiry form or call us at the phone number or Here are some pictures. Click on an image to enlarge.

About Holmes

What life with Holmes looks like

Holmes is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Holmes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Holmes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Holmes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Holmes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Holmes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Holmes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Holmes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
