Honey

Akita · Female · Young · 3 years

Honey is a beautiful Akita x Malinois. Despite being mostly akita her Malinois traits are strong. Honey needs a lot of mental and physical exercise to fulfil her busy brain. Honey has begun her training to earn her search and rescue license. Honey loves to play and work for her food. Honey is super loving and affectionate with her family. Once you are in she loves nothing more than a belly rub while nibbling your arm. Honey loves a good game of tug of war. Honey has great obedience in areas she feels confident in. Honey will run into her crate when asked and is place trained. Honey finds the outside world overwhelming and scary but is undergoing training and exposure to help her. Honey has gained a lot of confidence but still struggles when triggers are around. Typically Honey doesn’t outwardly react at humans but she needs space as you can see she is uncomfortable. Honey has began to join weekly socalisation classes. Honey is fearful of other dogs and will actively react when out the house at them. Therefore Honey would prefer to be the only dog (she currently lives separated from her foster brother, she doesn’t react at him but doesn’t want him anywhere near her). Honey has regular exposure to people coming over the house to help build her confidence and she has learnt to relax in the presents of people she doesn’t know, she doesn’t typically seek out affection from people she is wary of guests but as she has been getting more confident she has started to play with people and take treats. When Honey first arrived she struggled with separation anxiety, it is currently better than what it was but she struggles when left outside of her normal daily routine. Therefore while Honey settles someone that can be around most of the day will be ideal. Honey will be joining agility and hoopers classes once her reactivity has improved.

About Honey

What life with Honey looks like

Honey is a young adult akita dog waiting at All Dogs Matter in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Honey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Honey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. All Dogs Matter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Honey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Honey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — All Dogs Matter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Honey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Honey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with All Dogs Matter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Honey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
