Hope

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Hope, born in April 2017 and about 61 cm tall, is a friendly and calm male dog who has not yet had many good experiences in life. Overall he is rather reserved, but he does not come across as fearful. With familiar people he shows trust, and he will even take food from the hand of strangers. With his more assertive kennel mates, Hope is gentle and submissive and avoids conflict, without withdrawing completely. With his calm, balanced nature, he would surely be a loyal companion for people who give him time to settle in at his own pace and discover the world step by step. He has already had first experiences with a leash. In a home with a quiet environment, Hope will surely build trust quickly and show his gentle side even more. He is currently at the Alexandru Shelter in Izvoru. Visit update, August 2026: Hope is an incredibly friendly male dog who was very happy about the visit from Tanja and Rebecca, especially about the treats they brought. He allows himself to be touched and interacts kindly with his visitors. He seems to really enjoy the change, and very little of his reserve is still noticeable. This is such a wonderful development, and it shows us that Hope is ready to pack his bags, because Hope is already 9 years old. This is an age at which a dog should no longer have to spend the winter in a shelter. We do not understand why nobody is looking at this guy. He is among the older dogs in the shelter, and winter is coming sooner than you think. For senior dogs, this means cold, wet, hard floors and little protection. Hope should definitely leave the country before winter sets in. Hope is waiting to finally leave kennel life behind and find a loving foster home or a forever home of his own. Whoever gives him the chance will gain in Hope a grateful and loyal friend. Hope is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed under a protection agreement after a positive pre-screening. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us a great deal in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog may show itself differently in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides that were not visible at all in the shelter. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are no guarantee of any particular behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself in the shelter, and what potential lies within him. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find his way and continue to develop positively.

About Hope

What life with Hope looks like

Hope is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hope, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hope?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hope on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hope if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hope already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hope isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hope and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
