Hoppel

Male · Senior · 12 years

Hoppel is freshly neutered and is looking for new friends with whom he can live indoors at least over the winter. He is not adapted to the current outdoor temperatures and could therefore only move outside next summer. Rabbits are very social, curious and active animals. They absolutely need the company of their own kind - a human cannot replace a rabbit partner. Therefore, we only place our rabbits with at least two or with already existing, matching rabbit companions. For a happy rabbit life, they need a lot of space to hop and explore, retreat and hiding places as well as a varied environment. A species-appropriate diet with hay as the main component, fresh greens and vegetables is just as much a part of it as regular veterinary care. Good to know: Rabbits can live 8-12 years with good care. Taking in a rabbit is therefore a long-term responsibility. Rabbits are not loners and not cage animals - they want to live, play, explore and enjoy their lives with their own kind.

About Hoppel

What life with Hoppel looks like

Hoppel is a senior rabbit waiting at Tierheim Witten in Witten.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hoppel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hoppel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Witten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hoppel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hoppel if I live in another country?
Sometimes. Whether a rabbit can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Tierheim Witten what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Hoppel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
What a rabbit comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Tierheim Witten directly what is included and what Hoppel still needs.
What happens if Hoppel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Witten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hoppel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
