Adopt Hugo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

♂, born ca. 1/2025 - affable - social in Spain Hugo is a ca. 1/2025 born Podenco Maneto male dog with a shoulder height of ca. 30 cm. Hugo appeared out of nowhere. He was searching for food and shelter outside the house of a woman who is physically impaired and could not take him in. She did her best to ensure that he was well off outside, in front of her house, and contacted the local animal shelter, which picked up the little dear fellow. He was likely abandoned and left to his own devices, as no one was looking for him or missed him. Since then, Hugo has been eagerly waiting for a loving and adequate home and a cozy warm dog bed where he can live in security and well-being, happily. The cute and affable male dog is now searching for his final happiness with engaged people who have plenty of time for him, challenge and foster him, teach him the dog ABC with patience and calm, ideally with regular visits to dog training classes, and integrate him into their daily lives, where Hugo will finally experience the affection, love, and care he has not had before. Hugo is compatible with fellow animals of both sexes. He would like and be able to be rehomed with other social-compatible sovereign fellow animals, preferably of similar age and size. For Hugo, a loving home with active people who have plenty of time for him, as well as a joy and pleasure in shared activities with him, and discover the world together, is sought, because he has probably not been introduced to much and is also not a couch potato. A quiet rural home and environment would be desirable and ideal for him. Cats and/or small pets should not be present in his future home. Hugo will be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. He is located in an animal shelter in Andalusia/Spain. The adoption fee for Hugo is 460 Euro. About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
