Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten

Male stray/indoor FIV-positive Born approx. 2022 Neutered yes/no In shelter since 15.05.2026 ________________________ We test every cat via rapid test for FIV ("cat aids", info here!) and FeLV ("cat leukemia", info here!) and clarify the status. We inform here about the risk of FIP disease ("peritonitis", info here!). ________________________ Hugo had been wandering and unneutered in Angelburg for a longer period and had been noticed by the authorities and brought to us there, as there had been more serious conflicts with the neighbor cats. He seems not to be missing anywhere. Hugo is a trusting, curious tomcat, very present, very keen to be in the center of attention and is looking for a corresponding home that likes to spend longer stroking sessions in everyday life. He is - unfortunately not untypical for unneutered stray tomcats - FIV positive tested. FIV belongs to the family of retroviruses. It can trigger a disease in cats that resembles human HIV, which is why FIV is also called "cat AIDS". Due to the weakened immune system, it can happen that the cat can no longer fight off infections from a certain point on, then it comes to increased colds or gum inflammation under certain circumstances. FIV is not transmissible to humans or other animal species, but only under certain circumstances e.g. by a deep muscle bite on other cats (not by droplet infection). → More information on the FIV diagnosis is available here! Due to his diagnosis, Hugo is not placed in unsecured outdoor access. Ideal would be a home with a secure outdoor area such as a balcony that can be used frequently. Hugo shows himself to be generally well-suited with other cats at our place (perhaps also now, as the hormones decrease) and we could imagine him well in a company, perhaps also as a double pack with tomcat Elazar from his room! Hugo longs very much for more attention and hopes to find a loving home very soon! ________________________ (Stand 04.08.2026) (Click on the pictures to see them in full size!) The description reflects the current status, but we reserve the right to make changes or reassessments. It can always happen that an animal shows itself differently or develops differently here in the animal shelter as well as in the new home due to changed circumstances. männlich Fundtier/Wohnungshaltung FIV-positiv Geboren ca. 2022 EKH Kastriert ja / [] nein Im Tierheim seit 15.05.2026 ________________________ Wir testen jede Katze per Schnelltest auf FIV („Katzen-Aids“, Infos hier!) und FeLV („Katzen-Leukose“, Infos hier!) und klären über den Status auf. About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
