adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Hugo has found a home! His story: Betty and Hugo – two siblings to fall in love with! They were found shivering by the roadside, huddled together, and it wouldn’t have taken long for them to freeze. Hungry, dehydrated, and alone – until our life savers found them. He could now be placed in a private foster home. Hugo is about 2 months old and is expected to stay small. He is a brave, adventurous fellow who explores the world with curiosity. He is very playful, chasing sticks or playing with his sister. With his sweet eyes and gentle soul, he shows his affection quickly and snuggles up to her after a tiring playday for a nap. Despite his rough start in life, his heart is full of love and is always ready to share his joy with anyone who gives him attention. Hugo is looking for people who won’t have too many expectations of him and will show him how a normal dog life works. He is still a baby and has a lot to learn. One or two mishaps shouldn’t be held against him, and Hugo should always be guided with a positive reinforcement training style. He is looking forward to his new life with nature walks, lots of snuggles, and a visit to puppy school. Puppies should not be left alone as much as possible in their first year. Additionally, the more demanding pubertal phase is approaching. The hormone chaos turns the lives of these little rascals upside down. They “forget” much of what they have learned and their ears are on high alert. Therefore, it is especially important to consistently – but lovingly – train during this phase. And there is also good news: This phase will pass! Our Hugo is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He brings his EU Companion Animal Passport and can be adopted after a positive health check. Have you fallen in love with Hugo? Contact us! Many thanks Monika V.! You named Hugo! Date: 24.02.

Hast du dich in Hugo verliebt? Meld dich bei uns! Vielen Dank Monika V.! Du hast Hugo seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 24.02.2025

About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
