If you dream of a canine companion for an active lifestyle, Hugo might be just the one you’re looking for. Running, hiking in the mountains, or other shared adventures will bring him immense pleasure. He’s a very intelligent and quick-learning dog. He knows basic commands, willingly cooperates with people, and learns rapidly. He’s deeply focused on his guardian, loves spending time with him, and can look at him with genuine devotion. However, Hugo also has his challenges. He has a strong hunting instinct, so he requires proper guidance and caution around bicycles and other fast-moving objects. He sometimes even defends his guardian, which is why he needs further work on managing his emotions and behavior. We’re looking for a conscious, responsible guardian for Hugo—a person who understands the needs of an active dog and is ready to dedicate time to continued training, education, and building a proper relationship. Hugo has enormous potential, and with the right guidance, he’ll become a wonderful, devoted friend for many years to come. About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Gliwice in Poland.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Gliwice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Gliwice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Gliwice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
