Mikita Breed: mixed breed At the animal shelter since: 29.12.2025 Origin: Germany Mikita has been with us at the animal shelter for 136 days. Become a godparent My godparents are: Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause Mikita is a small dog senior with a big character. The charming long-haired dachshund mix has already experienced a lot. After his owner became seriously ill, he came to us in foster care a few months ago. Now we are looking for a new home for him, where he has a stable primary caregiver by his side again. His start with us was not easy at all. Mikita initially showed himself rather grumpy, did not want to be touched and often appeared grumpy overall. The reason became clear quickly, he suffered from severe toothaches. His teeth were severely inflamed and loose, so eventually they all had to be removed. Since then, Mikita has changed completely, much more relaxed, satisfied and much more approachable. Of course, he is not an "beginner dog", but a little character head who knows exactly what he wants and also what not. He looks for people who accept him as he is, and who meet him with patience and understanding. Once you have gained his trust, Mikita shows his wonderful side. He enjoys cuddles very much, can be really cheerful and funny, and forms a close bond with his primary caregiver. Then he loves her passionately and sincerely. At the same time, he also needs his rest periods and his space. Mikita is house-trained, can be left alone without problems, and gets along excellently with other dogs. One thing is important to him, when he is getting attention and cuddles, he does not want another dog near him. He likes walks, but in a relaxed setting, short walks are completely sufficient for him. Many stairs should be avoided as much as possible in his new home, as they become increasingly difficult for him with his short legs. For Mikita, we wish a quiet home with people who want to offer an older dog with character a loving and understanding environment. Whoever gets involved with him will gain a loyal little companion with a lot of personality. If you are interested in Mikita, we look forward to your inquiry.

About Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause

What life with Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause looks like

Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at 4animals! e.V. Hundeauffangstation HASt in Essen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 4animals! e.V. Hundeauffangstation HASt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 4animals! e.V. Hundeauffangstation HASt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 4animals! e.V. Hundeauffangstation HASt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Mikita sucht ein Zuhause and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
