Huszár

Mixed Breed · Male

In December 2022, the head of the Szerep dog pound contacted us because they were operating at full capacity with no free space. They asked whether, if at all possible, we could take in a few dogs so that they could admit other dogs in need and give them a chance to survive. Even then we did not have much free capacity to spare, but we said yes to two arrivals. One of them was the four-legged Huszár (called Berci there), who had spent 2.5 years at the facility, so we were especially glad to be chosen to take him in. From the moment the red male arrived, it quickly became clear that he learns easily, is playful, friendly, and enjoys the company of people. He is one of our fortunate residents who had permanent benefactors and was taken hiking from our animal home almost every Saturday. Our charge is in good condition; the distance doesn't bother him at all, and he always went along happily. According to our volunteers, many people have already admired him and found it hard to believe that such a beautiful and clever dog is currently living in a shelter without an owner. Unfortunately, that is the case, and he is one of our residents waiting for a home. Huszár is waiting with us, with an identification chip, valid vaccinations, and neutered.

About Huszár

What life with Huszár looks like

Huszár is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vackoló Állatmenhely Veszprém in Vackolo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Huszár, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Huszár?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vackoló Állatmenhely Veszprém handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Huszár on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Huszár if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vackoló Állatmenhely Veszprém will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Huszár already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Huszár isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vackoló Állatmenhely Veszprém early rather than rehoming privately; they know Huszár and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
