Ice

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

During our team project tour in mid-April 2026, Canile Arzachena was naturally a very important destination for us. On one hand, we wanted to see our long-awaited shelterlings who had been waiting there for a while. On the other hand, we should have all the dogs treated prophylactically against parasites. Because – as we had already seen at other stations – the ticks were once again very widespread. Last but not least, there were also new arrivals that we wanted to get to know. For example, the cute little male dog Ice. Ice had once had a home. But now the people could no longer keep him – for whatever reasons. So Ice ended up at Canile, where we got to know him. Ice was overjoyed when we entered the isolation area. He wouldn't leave our side and practically demanded cuddles. After the photo session, when we left the enclosure, he looked at us sadly. It broke our hearts to have to leave him behind. The staff at Canile unfortunately don't have the time to give each dog the affection and attention that would be desirable. For a such friendly, people-oriented dog who once had a home, this is particularly hard to bear. That's why we now hope that Canile will only be a short stop in his life and that he will soon be able to embark on the journey to Germany. There, he should find loving people who will give him a home for life, whom he can trust, and who will let him participate in all family activities. Do you want to contribute to Ice being happy again? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message.

About Ice

What life with Ice looks like

Ice is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ice, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ice?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ice on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ice if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ice already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ice isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ice and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
