Iceblue

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Iceblue - Attentive, eager to learn, and ready for her new home, Iceblue is a young female dog who perceives the world visually due to her deafness. That she cannot hear is not a hindrance for her: since she arrived at the animal shelter, she has made great progress and demonstrates daily how well she can communicate through visual cues and touch. Her behavior at the animal shelter, in the familiar pack, is social, and she accepts her fellow animals without any problems. She already masters basic commands like "sit" through hand signals and patiently waits for her reward. During walks, she is very attentive to her surroundings. At the beginning of the walk, she shows her excitement through jumping or tugging at the leash, but she calms down after a few minutes once she is on the way. Specialties & Training Since Iceblue relies heavily on her eyes, she focuses intensely on visual stimuli—such as other dogs or passersby. In these moments, she may bark or show a certain level of tension. In the new home, further work on orientation will be necessary. A vibration collar is an ideal support: it is not for punishment but as a silent "tap on the shoulder" to catch her attention from a distance and make her responsive. The ideal home • Environment: A fenced yard would be great, where she can move freely and even dig. • Companionship: Since she feels comfortable in the pack, a confident second dog would be a beautiful addition for her. • Experience: We are looking for people who enjoy working with visual cues and can give Iceblue the necessary structure to remain calm with external stimuli. Iceblue proves that a deaf dog is not much "harder" in everyday life—communication just happens on a different channel. Who would like to continue the journey with this wise female dog? About Iceblue

What life with Iceblue looks like

Iceblue is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Bettikum in Bettikum.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iceblue, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iceblue?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bettikum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iceblue on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iceblue if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bettikum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iceblue already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iceblue isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bettikum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iceblue and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
