Adopt Ignác

Male · Senior · 12 years

Ignác (originally Čert) came to us as a stray, and his original owner eventually gave him up. He is a typical "village Casanova" – he used to walk on his own, check the surroundings and mark everything carefully. He is estimated to be 11 years old and weighs 14 kilograms. His thick fur and the fact that he looks like a bonsai Newfoundlander dog (but he is really very far from that) make him appear larger. Ignác is not very familiar with the magic of working as a team with a person. Piškot will gladly take treats, but he still doesn't fully understand that rewards come from cooperation. He knows how to walk on a leash, provided there are not too many distracting stimuli nearby - especially other dogs. He would rather run away from them immediately and sometimes forgets that he is on a leash. He handles human handling well - he allows himself to be guided, examined, treated and cuddled. However, he has more difficulty with longer fixations, for example during brushing, when he gets nervous due to the length of the procedure and tries to escape. He has scars on his neck from being kept on a collar for a long time, and his fur probably will not grow back there. Otherwise, he is in very good health for his age. He was used to living outside, so he does not yet know life indoors and would have to get used to it gradually. He must not be left alone in an unsecured yard! If there is anything still going well with him at his age, it is climbing (he can easily jump over lower and medium fences like a nimble cat). His matted fur is now shaved, so it will take a while before it grows back and he becomes a real beauty to look at.

About Ignác

What life with Ignác looks like

Ignác is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Dogpoint in Malotice-Kostelec nad Černými lesy.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇿Adopting from Czech Republic

Frequently asked

Adopting Ignác, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ignác?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogpoint handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ignác on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ignác if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogpoint will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ignác already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ignác isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogpoint early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ignác and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
