Irene

Unknown · Adult · 10 years

Irene is a beautiful 10-year-old female cat. She came to us as a stray. A super social lady but unfortunately not microchipped. Irene arrived here with a severely neglected coat, which is now fortunately recovering. Irene has long hair so requires good and regular grooming! Irene's interactions with other cats are unknown. She can be placed with children from 12 years old. Who has a place in their home and heart for this golden oldie? If interested, please send us an email with detailed answers to the accompanying questionnaire. Emails without answers will not be answered. Visiting spontaneously is not possible. Please do not call. We would like to know about your home and work situation first. - Are there children present? If so, how old? - Are there dogs present? - Are there other pets present? - What type of housing do you have? Do you rent or own it? - Do you already have experience with cats? If so, what happened to the previous cats? - Where will the cat sleep? Where will the cat live? - Where does the cat stay during the day/during your absence, Indoors or outdoors? - Are you aware that adopting a cat is a responsibility for the next 15 years or more?

About Irene

What life with Irene looks like

Irene is a adult cat waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus in Aalst.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Irene, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Irene?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Irene on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Irene if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Irene already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Irene isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Hubertus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Irene and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
